Summary
The purchasing of paper on this campus is divided into three categories : administration (central provider), Research Centers (independant Centers that are affiliated with the campus but do not buy paper through the central service) and miscellaneous purchases ( Fine Arts and Engineering, for example, need specific types of paper and do not resort to the central service).
The only concrete data I've been able to obtain was from the central provider, citing that our campus buys 1 820 000 sheets of White virgin paper every year (58 446 $$$ worth!). No recycled paper at all from the administration.
What we're doing
-I've prepared a Paper Petition that will be posted for 2 weeks. Do you think that's long enough ?
- Getting a "Pepsi-Challenge-but-with-recycled-and-virgin-paper-instead-of-Pepsi-and-Coke" contest to get at the secretaries.
- Making sure that the next contracts for photocopy-machine rentals are for machines that can offer double-sided service
What we need help with
- If the price for recycled paper is 1,15ยข more per sheet than white wirgin paper, what's the best way to convice a cheap university like ours to buy-in ?
- Would writing to the President about this individual problem be a good idea, or should we wait until the whole Campus Sustainibility Assessment is done to bring him that news ?
- I need phone nuymbers and contacts from Dal ... how could I get someone from your university to convince our leaders to switch to recycled paper ? Or at least tell them that this type of paper is not "dangerous" for the photocopy-machines
- How can I write in proper English without letting everyone know I'm an acadian, haha ?
